Court Finds Champion Funding, Judgment Acquisitions Unlimited and Andrew Metcalf Willfully and Intentionally Violated Debt Collection and Consumer Protection Laws

On June 23, 2023, after a bench trial in the federal District Court in Boston, Judge Denise Casper awarded the Plaintiffs double their actual damages and their attorneys fees after finding that Champion Funding, Judgment Acquisitions Unlimited and Andrew Metcalf willfully violated federal and state debt collection regulations and violated the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act by first seizing a vehicle belonging to the debtor’s son (who was a Jr.) and refusing to return it after being notified that it was not the debtor’s car, and then by subsequently seizing the actual debtor’s leased vehicle and wrongfully holding for 204 days.  SERGIO ESPINOSA SR. & SERGIO ESPINOSA JR., Plaintiffs, v.
